The claimed range figures published for EVs are tested under standardized conditions and represent a best-case scenario. Real-world range varies based on driving style, traffic conditions, AC/heater usage, cabin load and terrain (hills reduce range).
As a general guide, expect real-world range to be somewhat lower than the claimed figure, especially in city stop-go traffic with AC running. Ask your showroom advisor for realistic range expectations for your specific driving pattern.
Ask what sits behind a range figure
A range figure becomes more meaningful when you know what it represents. Distinguish the manufacturer's stated test figure from the estimate displayed by a particular car. Ask the advisor to explain the information for your chosen battery variant and avoid comparing figures drawn from different conditions as if they were identical.
Describe your usual journeys, including the trips you take less often but still need to plan. Use that discussion to consider charging opportunities and a sensible margin. A useful range conversation is about making your travel workable, rather than promising that every journey will reproduce a published number.
